Giving back

Body Heat Hot Pilates & Yoga® strongly believes in the importance of giving back to our local communities. Karly Urata sat on the Board of Directors from 2010-2013, and from 2011-2012 on the committee of, The Girls Night Out. This is an event which raises over $150,000 per year through various community fundraising activities for The Shade Tree, a shelter for abused and homeless women and children. Since 2012 Body Heat has provided free yoga to homeless women every Saturday morning.

Since 1990 The Shade Tree has served homeless and abused women and children, victims of domestic violence, victims of street violence, female veterans, homeless youth and physically disabled persons. Using programs offered by The Shade Tree, women can rebuild their lives by finding employment, secure permanent housing and become productive members of the community.

The Shade Tree is the only 24-hour accessible shelter designed specifically to meet the needs of women and children in Southern Nevada. With 364 permanent, and 50 temporary, beds The Shade Tree is the largest of its kind. They provide some 80,000 nights of shelter each year.

All services are completely free of charge, regardless of the length of stay. For more information on The Shade Tree please go to: www.theshadetree.org.

In September 2014 our Rocklin, CA location became part of Yoga Across America, hosting a donation based class with all proceeds going to the YAA effort in the Sacramento area. In addition to this we joined in the Day of Peace event, teaching some of the 108 Sun Salutations and sharing love, peace and yoga throughout the day. The Mission of Yoga Across America (YAA) was created to inspire communities across the country by improving health through sharing mindful yoga practices.

Yoga Across America is held in schools, military bases, parks, low-income communities, homeless shelters, children’s hospitals and many other locations where people don’t have access to the practice or can’t afford it.

Because Yoga Across America reaches out to communities who might not have access to yoga, we are co-creating change that benefits everyone.

In October 2014 all Body Heat locations will be participating in Breast Cancer Awareness month. We are offering FREE classes to all breast cancer survivors and to those currently battling breast cancer. Each studio will be participating in donation based classes to help raise money for the fight against cancer.

Since 2012 Body Heat Hot Pilates & Yoga® has donated memberships to both The Governor’s Ball and The Jewish Federation of Las Vegas.
